Measuring and monitoring

Tank level measurement.Which tank sender fits.

Which tank sender fits depends on three questions: what is in the tank, how is the tank built and where should the level be displayed? There is a suitable measuring method for every combination.

Tank level measurement: which tank sender fits
  • 4 tanksdirectly on the Control Unit PCU
  • No drillingwith an external sensor
  • Black watermeasured without contact

Measuring methods at a glance

Float sender (TGW, TGT)Water or fuelFrom above through a tank opening
Tank probe (TDS, TDN, TDT)Water and fuelFrom above, length matched to tank depth
Non-contact ultrasonic (UTV)Black and grey waterFrom above, without contact with the liquid
External sensor (Gobius)Tanks that should not be openedOn the outside of the tank wall

Black water tanks

In black water tanks, mechanical senders clog quickly. Here you measure without contact using ultrasound or from outside through the tank wall. For a simple full warning, a switching sensor is enough.

The display

A single tank can be shown on a round gauge. For several tanks, tank monitors such as TCS or VTM 2 are a good choice. If you want to see battery and tanks together, use the battery and tank monitor BTM2 or the Control Unit PCU, to which up to four tanks can be connected directly. The universal tank interface UTI connects existing senders to a new display.

Installation and calibration

Tanks on board are rarely box-shaped. For the display to be correct, the level should be calibrated in several steps: empty, quarter, half, three quarters and full. This way even a wedge-shaped or moulded tank is shown correctly.

Frequently asked questions.Short answers.

Which tank sender is suitable for black water tanks?

A non-contact ultrasonic sender or a sensor that measures from outside through the tank wall. Mechanical senders clog quickly in black water tanks.

Can I measure the level without opening the tank?

Yes. Sensors such as Gobius are bonded to the outside of the tank wall and measure through it, without drilling into the tank.

How many tanks can one display show?

That depends on the device. Tank monitors show several tanks at the same time, and up to four tanks can be connected directly to the Control Unit PCU.

Why is my tank gauge reading wrong?

Usually the tank is not evenly shaped and the display has not been calibrated. A multi-step calibration solves this in most cases.
