Many navigation devices, radios, and receivers cannot be operated directly from a 24V vehicle electrical system because they are designed for 12V operation. The DC/DC converter generates the 12V voltage from a 24V battery voltage. This eliminates the need for an additional 12V battery and its charger. It also prevents the harmful draw of partial voltage from the 24V battery bank. The 12V devices are powered directly from the converter.
