Unser FAQ
Here you will find our customers' most frequently asked questions!
It has a stainless steel housing and is very compact and rack-mountable. The BMS with complete monitoring is already integrated. The integrated CAN bus interface allows reliable monitoring of the battery via our monitors. The LB series batteries can communicate with chargers from Philippi, Studer and Mastervolt, which leads to extremely stable and fail-safe systems for large battery banks.
Yes, all common sensors used in the marine and automotive sectors can be connected.
For a classic system with a starter and a house bank, we recommend the BLS set or, with a larger screen, the BLM monitor with more functions and an NMEA interface.
If additional tank monitoring is desired, the BTM 2 monitor also with an NMEA interface.
If the system is to be expandable with additional functions in the future or if components from other manufacturers are to be integrated into a Philippi system (one display for all devices), we recommend the PSL or PSM 3 system monitors.
For a plastic yacht with shore power connection to prevent galvanic corrosion when the shore power is plugged in. However, the sacrificial anodes within the propulsion system (propeller, shaft, saildrive) are still needed as these are caused by the different metals of the propulsion system.
Basically for all supply batteries using lithium technology that are charged by the engine via the alternator.
For poorly regulated alternators or long cable runs for all battery types. Charge boosters can also be used to efficiently charge a battery bank for anchors or bow thrusters via the service battery bank. This can compensate for the voltage drop that occurs on the charging cable during charging (often long and thick charging cables are necessary). In addition, different battery types (lead-acid, lithium) can be charged with one alternator.
Solar controllers and wind generators are connected directly to the battery bank to be charged (always remember to fuse the charging line near the battery terminal!).
In most cases, they can be combined with all other charging sources on board (charging with multiple charging sources).
In some cases, problems may arise when charging simultaneously with the alternator. These problems can be solved by switching off the wind or solar controller during engine operation.
Basically, whenever I am not satisfied with the performance of the existing alternator.
Examples:
- Alternator with classic V-belt causes strong rubber abrasion during charging (V-belt overload)
- Alternator provides too little charging power (Especially with older engines, very small alternators were installed, which do not provide more than 20A charging power during cruising)
- Alternator gets too hot during charging (Alternator is overloaded by a large battery bank or lithium battery, which can lead to the destruction of the existing alternator)
- I need high charging currents > 50A
- I want an almost maintenance-free, fail-safe charging system for my trips, where I don't want to rely on shore power
- I need a customized charging characteristic for my batteries (e.g., lithium battery)
- I want to protect my service batteries from overcharging and overvoltage during long motor journeys.
No, most people only want to use the advantages of lithium for the service battery. As a replacement for starter and bow thruster batteries, special high-current-capable lithium battery systems are needed, which usually do not have an internal electronic main switch.
It should also be noted that lithium batteries have a much lower internal resistance and a higher voltage under load, which leads to a significantly higher load current to the bow thruster or starter. This can lead to the starter or bow thruster being overloaded and damaged.
Yes, this is possible. For this, the required fuse size per circuit must be specified when ordering the switch panel.
For this purpose, Philippi offers the RKL distribution busbar for onboard consumers in various sizes. This allows an optimal distribution to be built.
Yes, before each switchboard, a main fuse must be integrated into the supply line to the switchboard near the battery.
Yes, the circuits must be externally fused. Our fuse blocks or our CMR switching modules are suitable for this.
