Philippi Battery Monitors – Precise Battery Monitoring for Boats, Yachts & Vehicles

Philippi battery monitors display the exact charge status, current, voltage, remaining capacity, and remaining runtime of the onboard battery at all times – on an intuitive color touchscreen, directly on board. Whether lead, AGM, gel, or lithium (LiFePO4): the product range includes specialized models for every battery type and system size – with an optional NMEA-2000 interface for display on compatible chartplotters.

Briefly explained: Philippi battery monitors use a digital precision shunt to record the actual charging and discharging current, calculating the precise state of charge – far more accurately than a simple voltage measurement. In addition, data on battery usage, such as average depth of discharge, unusable battery capacity, and the number of charge/discharge cycles, are recorded.

Overview of All Philippi Battery Monitors

BLS – Compact Battery Monitor (2.4" TFT Touch / 12 V & 24 V)

The BLS battery monitor is a compact battery monitoring solution for battery systems consisting of a 12/24V starter battery and one or more parallel-connected 12/24V service batteries. The 2.4" TFT touch screen instantly displays all important data for the entire battery system, without the need to press a button. The built-in brightness sensor automatically dims the screen in the dark, saving valuable energy.

Displays: Voltage, charge/discharge current, remaining time, battery temperature, state of charge (%), number of charge cycles, deep discharges, average depth of discharge.

Suitable for all battery types such as lead-acid, lead-gel, lead-AGM, and lithium LiFePO4.

Expandable with the ACE-LIN Interface for monitoring and controlling Philippi ACE chargers directly on the monitor. Available as a BLS set including shunt SHE 300 or SHE 348.

BTM2 – Battery-Tank Monitor with NMEA 2000 (3.5" / 12–48 V DC)

The further development of the proven BTM battery-tank monitor now allows operation from 12 to 48 V DC, making it suitable, in conjunction with the SHE 348 shunt, for monitoring 48 V battery systems. Also new is the integrated NMEA-2000 interface, which makes battery and tank data available to the NMEA-2000 network. This allows battery and tank data to be additionally displayed on compatible plotters.

In addition to the BTM2:

  • Tank monitoring: The fill levels of up to four tanks can be monitored. Suitable for tank senders TGT/TGW, UTV, TDS/TDN or input signal ranges 10–180 Ω / 240–33 Ω / 0–5 V / 0–10 V / 4–20 mA.
  • With the SHP 348 shunt, additional current measurement for charging sources (e.g. solar) is possible.
  • Integration of Philippi ACE chargers via ACE-LIN interface

Operating voltage: 12–48 V DC – the first model in the range also suitable for 48 V systems.

BLM2 – Large Battery Monitor Display (3.5" TFT Touch / NMEA 2000)

BLM2 battery monitor with intuitive 3.5" color TFT touch screen graphic display with brightness sensor for automatic adjustment of display brightness, including NMEA-2000 interface. Monitoring of service and starter battery via the SHE 348 shunt (included). With an additional SHP 300 shunt, the power and energy yield of a solar system can be read. Battery management via remote-controlled main switch FBR 265.

The BLM2 is the advanced solution for more demanding onboard electrical systems – with a large display, NMEA-2000 connectivity, and the ability to control the FBR 265 remote-controlled main switch directly from the monitor.

LBS – Lithium Battery Monitor (2.4" TFT Touch)

The LBS lithium battery monitor features an intuitive 2.4" color TFT touch screen graphic display with a light sensor for automatic adjustment of display brightness. It is suitable for up to 6 parallel-connected Philippi LB lithium batteries (12 or 24 V).

The LBS is specifically designed for the requirements of Philippi LB lithium battery systems and communicates directly with the batteries – for precise, BMS-integrated monitoring without an external shunt.

LBM – Lithium Battery Monitor (for up to 20 batteries)

The LBM lithium battery monitor is the solution for larger lithium battery systems, monitoring up to 20 parallel-connected Philippi lithium batteries. With a 3.5" TFT touch display and NMEA-2000 interface for display on compatible plotters.

LTM – Lithium Battery-Tank Monitor (3.5" TFT Touch / NMEA 2000)

The LTM lithium battery-tank monitor combines full lithium battery monitoring with tank monitoring for up to 4 tanks in one device. With a 3.5" TFT touchscreen, NMEA-2000 interface, and support for all Philippi tank sensors (TGT/TGW, UTV, TDS/TDN, DFS).

Battery Management Shunts – The Heart of the Measurement

All battery monitors require a digital shunt for precise current measurement. Philippi offers the following:

SHE 348 – Battery Management Shunt (up to 300 A / up to 50,000 Ah)

Digital battery management shunt for installation in the negative line of the service battery. The SHE 348 shunt is compatible with the BLS, BTM, BTM2, BLM, BLM2, LTM, LBS, and LBM monitors. The shunt is powered via the voltage measuring line of the connected service battery. Suitable for continuous charge or discharge currents up to 300 A and battery capacities up to 1,000 Ah.

SHP 348 – Additional Current Measuring Shunt (Solar / Charging Sources)

The SHP 348 supplements the BTM2, BLM2, and LTM monitors with an additional current measurement for monitoring individual charging sources or consumers. With this additional shunt, for example, the power and energy yield of a solar system can be read.

NMEA 2000 – Battery and Tank Data on the Chartplotter

The integrated NMEA-2000 interface makes battery and tank data available to the NMEA-2000 network. This allows battery and tank data to be additionally displayed on compatible plotters. Compatible with all common plotter brands such as Garmin, Raymarine, Simrad, and B&G. An additional Seatalk-NG adapter cable is available for Raymarine networks.

Frequently Asked Questions about Philippi Battery Monitors

What is the difference between BLS and BTM2? The BLS is the more compact 2.4" monitor for pure battery monitoring without tank function and without NMEA 2000. The BTM2 has a larger 3.5" display, additionally monitors up to 4 tanks, features NMEA 2000, and supports 12–48 V systems.

Which monitor do I need for lithium batteries (LiFePO4)? For Philippi LB lithium batteries, the specialized models LBS (up to 6 batteries), LBM (up to 20 batteries), and LTM (with tank function) are designed. They communicate directly with the BMS of the Philippi lithium batteries. For other lithium batteries, BLS, BTM2, and BLM2 can also be used.

Which shunt is compatible with which monitor? The SHE 348 shunt is compatible with the BLS, BTM, BTM2, BLM, BLM2, LTM, LBS, and LBM monitors. For 48 V systems, only the SHE 348 is suitable.

Can I display solar data on the monitor? Yes. With the optional SHP 348 additional shunt, another energy source – e.g., a solar system – can be measured and displayed separately on the BTM2, BLM2, and LTM monitors.

Can the monitors communicate with the ACE charger? Yes. Via the optional ACE-LIN interface, Philippi ACE chargers can be integrated into the monitor – for displaying charging voltage, charging current, charging phase, and battery temperature, as well as for controlling the charging power directly on the display.
