Tank Monitoring
Tank Sensors & Level Senders – Precise Level Measurement for Boats, Yachts, and RVs
For reliable level monitoring on board and in vehicles, we offer a wide selection of tank level senders and sensors – from classic float sensors to non-contact radar sensors. All sensors are designed for precise, durable measurement in demanding environments and are compatible with our on-board monitors and energy management systems.
Float Sensors TGW & TGT – Classic Level Measurement for Water, Fuel, and Wastewater
The TGW and TGT float sensors operate on the proven float principle and provide a resistance-based output signal of 10–180 Ohm – the international standard for tank instruments.
Suitable for: Fresh water tanks, fuel tanks, wastewater tanks Not suitable for: Holding tanks
Installation: Top installation into the tank required. Various installation lengths available – suitable for different tank depths.
Pressure Sensor TDS & TDN 200 – High-Precision Measurement for All Liquids
The TDS and TDN 200 pressure sensors measure the liquid level via hydrostatic pressure at the tank bottom and are characterized by extremely high precision and resolution. They are suitable for all common liquids and can handle tank depths of up to 2 m.
Installation: The probe is lowered to the tank bottom and measures continuously from there.
TDT Variant: Available as a screw-in probe – for fixed, tool-proof installation directly in the tank.
Suitable for: Water, fuel, wastewater, black water, and other liquids
Ultrasonic Sensor UTV – Non-Contact Measurement from Above
The UTV ultrasonic sensor measures the liquid level non-contact from above using ultrasonic waves – without direct contact with the liquid.
Measurement accuracy: Very precise with a clear sound path between the sensor and the liquid surface.
Dead zone: 2.5 cm below the sensor cannot be detected.
Note: Foaming or heavily splashing liquids can affect the measurement. Not suitable for tanks where liquid directly reaches the sensor.
Flow Sensor – Liter-Accurate Water Consumption in Real Time
The flow sensor measures the actual flow with liter-accurate resolution and is suitable for precise consumption detection in the fresh water system.
Suitable for: Fresh water Not suitable for: Fuel, wastewater, or other liquids Display: Liter-accurate, in real time
Gobius C – Non-Contact Radar Level Measurement from Outside
The Gobius C measures the liquid level non-contact from outside the tank – without drilling or intervention in the tank – making it particularly easy to retrofit.
Measurement principle: Radar (electromagnetic waves) Dead zone: Approx. 5 cm in the bottom area of the tank due to radar wave physics
Plastic tanks: No drilling necessary – sensor is mounted on the outside of the tank. Metal tanks: Drilling is required as radar waves cannot penetrate metal.
Additional functions:
- Accompanying app for setup and display
- Available as NMEA 2000 version for integration into the on-board instrument network
Gobius Pro – Simple Level Switch for Tanks from Outside
The Gobius Pro is attached to the outside of the tank and reliably detects whether the liquid level is above or below the mounting point – ideal as a full or empty indicator.
Measurement principle: Capacitive, from outside without drilling Display: Binary (level above/below sensor position) Suitable for: Plastic or composite tanks
Compatibility with Monitors and Interfaces
| Monitor / Display | Direct Connection | Required Interface |
|---|---|---|
| BMT2 | ✓ Directly connectable | – |
| VTM2 | ✓ Directly connectable | – |
| PCU | ✓ Directly connectable | – |
| PSM2 / PSL (P-Bus) | – | CMT2 Tank Interface required |
All tank sensors are directly compatible with BMT2, VTM2 and PCU monitors – without an additional interface. For use with PSM2 and PSL P-Bus system monitors, the CMT2 Tank Interface is required, which integrates up to 4 sensors simultaneously.
Frequently Asked Questions about Tank Sensors
Which tank sensor is suitable for holding tanks? Float sensors (TGW/TGT) are not suitable for holding tanks. For black water, the TDS/TDN 200 pressure sensor or the Gobius C (for plastic tanks) are recommended, as they do not require direct contact with the liquid or are designed to be robust against aggressive media.
Do I need to drill into my tank for mounting? That depends on the sensor type: Float sensors and pressure sensors require top installation. The Gobius C and Gobius Pro are mounted externally on plastic tanks without drilling. For metal tanks, drilling is necessary for the Gobius C.
Which sensor is the most precise? The TDS/TDN 200 pressure sensor and UTV ultrasonic sensor provide the highest measurement accuracy. The Gobius Pro only measures binary (above/below), but is particularly easy to mount.
Are the sensors compatible with NMEA 2000? The Gobius C is available in an NMEA 2000 version and can be directly integrated into the on-board instrument network.
