The philippi UTV non-contact tank level measurement is an ultrasonic tank sensor with no moving parts inside the tank – developed specifically for level measurement in wastewater and black water tanks on boats and vehicles.
- No moving parts in the tank – insensitive to contamination and mechanical damage
- Especially suitable for wastewater and black water tanks, where mechanical float sensors quickly become contaminated
- First measurement value available after just 5 seconds
- Available in 10 installation lengths from 20 to 80 cm – suitable for different tank depths
The UTV measures the fill level by ultrasound from above through the tank top and provides an analog output signal of 0.5–2.5 V, which can be connected to philippi tank monitors such as TCS, VTM, BTM 2, and PSM3. Since the measurement only works reliably in a horizontal position, installing a UFT sound guide tube significantly improves measurement accuracy when the tank is tilted or in rough seas and simultaneously protects against contamination and foam on the liquid surface.
For fuel and water tanks, philippi recommends other tank sensors, as ultrasonic measurement does not provide reliable results in the upper dead zone of 2.5 cm when the vessel is heeling, in rough seas, or when the tank is completely full. The UTS 25 spacer ring is available for this area, which raises the sensor by exactly this 2.5 cm.

Compatibility
The UTV can be connected to philippi tank monitors such as TCS, VTM, BTM 2, and PSM3. For reliable measurement when tilted or in rough seas, philippi recommends installing a UFT sound guide tube; for the upper measuring range, the UTS 25 spacer ring.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the UTV particularly suitable for wastewater and black water tanks?
Because no moving parts in the tank come into contact with the liquid and therefore cannot become contaminated or damaged.
How large is the dead zone of the UTV?
2.5 cm in the upper measuring range, directly below the sensor. In this area, the transmitted pulse and echo cannot be separated due to the principle of operation. The UTS 25 spacer ring raises the sensor by exactly this 2.5 cm, making the full tank measurable as well.
Is the UTV also suitable for fuel or water tanks?
No, philippi primarily recommends it for black water tanks. For fuel and water tanks, the measurement can become inaccurate when heeling, in rough seas, or when the tank is full in the upper dead zone area.
How quickly is the first measurement available?
After approx. 5 seconds of power-on time.
Which installation length do I need?
The UTV is available in 10 lengths from 20 to 80 cm – choose the length that matches your tank's height.
