USB charging sockets
USB charging sockets for 12 V and 24 V systems
USB charging sockets charge smartphones, tablets, notebooks and navigation devices directly from the on-board system – without an inverter or adapter. In this category you will find flush-mount and surface-mount sockets with USB-C and USB-A, many with fast charging to Power Delivery (PD) and Quick Charge (QC), mainly from the German manufacturer pro-car, complemented by models from alfatronix and Blue Sea Systems.
In brief: A simple USB socket is enough for smartphones; for tablets and notebooks you need USB-C with Power Delivery and sufficient power, for example 50 or 60 W.
The range
- High-power USB-C: USC 60 (60 W) and USC 50 (50 W) with PD/QC, USC, USCC double socket
- USB-C and USB-A combined: PD/QC double sockets in flush-mount and surface-mount versions, USA CC
- Classic USB-A sockets: USB 3 (3 A), USD 12/24 A, USD 5D with cover, flat USF, angled CW, surface-mount USA
- Other brands: USD GW and USD FM from alfatronix, USV with cap from Blue Sea Systems
- Accessories: angled UWB double plug, mounting plate and cover
Sockets for standard plugs, socket panels and the MagCode system can be found under DC connectors 12/24 V.
Frequently asked questions about USB charging sockets
Which USB socket charges a notebook?
For notebooks and tablets you need a USB-C socket with Power Delivery and sufficient power, such as the USC 60 with 60 W or the USC 50 with 50 W. Simple 5 V USB-A sockets are only enough for smartphones and smaller devices. Check the charging power your device needs according to its power adapter.
Do the sockets work in 12 V and 24 V systems?
Yes, the USB charging sockets in this category are designed for 12 V and 24 V systems. They convert the on-board voltage internally to USB voltage, so the same socket can be used in a 12 V motorhome and in a 24 V truck or yacht. Each socket is fused like a normal load.
Flush-mount or surface-mount socket?
Flush-mount sockets sit flush in a switch panel, furniture or dashboard and need a cut-out. Surface-mount sockets are screwed onto a surface and suit retrofits without a cut-out for the housing. For damp areas there are versions with cover or cap, such as the USV from Blue Sea Systems.
What do PD and QC mean?
Power Delivery is the fast-charging standard for USB-C, Quick Charge the widespread standard for USB-A. Sockets with PD and QC charge compatible smartphones, tablets and notebooks much faster than sockets with a fixed 5 V. Charger and device negotiate the right voltage automatically.
