When is a generator worthwhile in an expedition vehicle?
A generator is worthwhile if you stay self-sufficient for long periods while running high continuous loads such as air conditioning, an electric cooker or a water heater, or if there is hardly any solar yield in winter. If you drive a lot, charging via a charge booster at the alternator is usually cheaper. The generator is then the reliable fallback for stationary periods.
Which version suits my vehicle?
The three versions of the 5000i range differ in design and installation situation. Which one fits depends on the vehicle type, the available space, the exhaust routing and the cooling at the installation location. How is the generator connected to the on-board system?
The generator supplies 230 V AC. Via a changeover unit or a combi inverter with mains priority, it supplies the 230 V loads and at the same time charges the leisure battery via a charger. After an hour of generator running you therefore have both power for the loads and charged battery capacity.
Aren't a charge booster and solar enough?
For many vehicles, yes. A charge booster and solar cover the demand if you drive regularly and loads are moderate.
