AC Shore Power Units

philippi AC Shore Power Units LAE – Safe Shore Power Supply for Boats & Yachts

philippi shore power units enable standard-compliant, safe reception of 230 V shore power on board sailing yachts and motorboats. They combine RCBo residual current protection, circuit protection, and – optionally in the latest generation – even microprocessor-controlled fire protection in one compact device. All philippi shore power units comply with DIN ISO 13297 standards and contain only tested quality components.

Brief explanation: For a safe and standard-compliant shore connection on boats, the use of a two-pole circuit breaker and an RCD (residual current device) with a 30 mA tripping current is required according to the recreational craft directive. philippi uses combined RCBo circuit breakers in its shore power units, which combine both functions in a space-saving manner.

What is an RCBo circuit breaker and why is it mandatory?

An RCBo (Residual Current Circuit Breaker with overcurrent protection) combines a residual current device (RCD, 30 mA personal protection) and a two-pole miniature circuit breaker in a single device. It simultaneously protects against residual currents (electric shock), overload, and short circuits – thus fulfilling all requirements of DIN EN ISO 13297 for 230 V on-board electrical installations on boats and yachts.

All Philippi Shore Power Units at a Glance

LAE 101 – Compact Basic Unit (Panel Mount)

Shore power unit for 230 V/50 Hz mains power reception with a Schuko socket for 230 V on-board power supply. The mains indicator lights show correct mains connection. Connection on the rear via feed-through terminals. Dimensions W 185 × H 150 × D 100 mm.

The LAE 101 is the simplest complete shore power unit for panel mounting – with RCBo protection, mains indicator, and Schuko socket.

LAE 113 – Complete Shore Power Unit with 3 Consumer Circuits

Shore power unit for 230 V/50 Hz mains power reception with a Schuko socket for 230 V on-board power supply. The mains indicator lights show correct mains connection. 3 two-pole circuit breakers (10 A) for sockets, boiler, and battery charger. Connection on the rear via feed-through terminals.

The LAE 113 is the most popular unit for medium-sized sailing yachts: RCBo protection, reverse polarity indicator, Schuko socket, and three fused consumer circuits on one panel.

LAE 211 – Splash-Proof Unit in Plastic Housing (IP X4)

Shore power unit for AC 230 V/50 Hz mains power reception with a Schuko socket. Mains indicator lamp shows mains status. Mains connection internally directly to the terminals of the RCBO circuit breaker, cable entry with cable gland. Splash-proof full plastic housing with hinged lid. Protection class IP X4.

The LAE 211 is the right choice for damp or exposed installation locations. Thanks to IP-X4 protection class, also suitable for use in cockpits or stern lockers.

LAE 232 – Panel Mount with 2 Consumer Circuits (Series 200 Format)

Shore power unit with RCBO circuit breaker (16 A/30 mA), mains indicator, and 2 two-pole thermal circuit breakers 10 A for AC 230 V/50 Hz. Compatible with the Series 200 circuit distribution panels. Connection via rear terminals. The rear electrical assembly is designed to be touch-safe to protect against electric shock.

Dimensions: W 105 × H 210 × D 100 mm. Compatible with the Philippi STV Series 200 panel system – for a visually and technically integrated overall system. A rear cover must be provided on-site.

LAE 235 – Panel Mount with Schuko Socket (Series 200 Format)

Shore power unit with RCBO circuit breaker (16 A/30 mA), mains indicator, and Schuko socket for AC 230 V/50 Hz. Compatible with the Series 200 circuit distribution panels. Connection via rear terminals. The rear electrical assembly is designed to be touch-safe to protect against electric shock.

Ideal for integration as a single device into existing Series 200 panel rows. A rear cover must be provided on-site.

LAE 236 – Extension Distributor with 6 AC Consumer Circuits

6 circuits with two-pole thermal rocker circuit breakers 10 A for AC 230 V/50 Hz. Compatible with the Series 200 circuit distribution panels. Dimensions W 105 × H 210 × D 70 mm.

Important: The LAE 236 does not have its own RCBo protection and requires upstream RCBo protection. It is designed as a pure extension panel for existing systems with already present residual current protection. A rear cover must be provided on-site

LAE 320 – With AFDD Fire Protection Switch (IP 65) – Maximum Safety

Shore power unit with fire protection switch for 230 V/50 Hz mains power reception. The control lamp of the circuit breaker shows the mains status. Mains connection internally directly to the terminals of the RCBO-AFDD circuit breaker,

The new residual current device with AFDD tripping unit combines electromechanical residual current and circuit protection with microprocessor-controlled arc fault protection. The AFDD fire protection switch is capable of minimizing the risk of fire caused by electrical systems. It detects series arc faults (crushing and kinking of cables, damaged insulation, and loose contacts) as well as parallel arc faults (insulation problems between L to N or PE).

The LAE 320 is the safest shore power unit in the range – especially recommended for older or extended on-board installations where the risk of cable damage or wiring faults is increased.

LAU Series – Automatic Transfer Units (Shore Power / Generator / Inverter)

LAU units automatically switch between multiple input sources and are the solution for on-board power systems with generators, inverters, or multiple shore power inputs:

Model Inputs Circuit Breaker Max. Current Special Feature
LAU 216 F 2 RCBO 16 A/30 mA 16 A For generators up to 4 kW, 2 sources
LAU 325 F 3 RCBO Shore/Inv 16 A,
Generator 25 A
For generators up to 5.7 kW, 3 sources
LAU 340 F 3 RCBO 40 A/30 mA Shore/Inv 16 A,
Generator 40 A
For generators up to 9 kW, 3 sources

The transfer units measure the input voltage and only switch to the on-board network when the nominal voltage is stable – generators are only switched on after they have reached their nominal voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions about Philippi Shore Power Units

Which standard applies to shore connections on boats? DIN EN ISO 13297 requires a two-pole RCBo circuit breaker with a 30 mA tripping current. All philippi shore power units comply with these standards.

What is an AFDD fire protection switch and when do I need it? The AFDD is capable of minimizing the risk of fire caused by electrical systems. The fire protection switch evaluates the time-dependent voltage and current profile and detects series and parallel arc faults – e.g., due to crushed, kinked, or damaged cables. Especially recommended for older on-board installations or cruising yachts with long shore power cables.

What is the difference between LAE and LAU? LAE units are designed for a single input source (dock shore power). LAU units automatically switch between multiple sources (shore power, generator, inverter).

Can I install an LAE 232 or LAE 235 directly into my existing Philippi switch panel? Yes. The LAE 232 and LAE 235 are compatible with the Series 200 circuit distribution panels – they integrate seamlessly into existing panel rows. A rear cover must be provided on-site.

Do I need a separate RCBO unit with the LAE 236? Yes, absolutely. The LAE 236 does not have its own RCBO protection and is only permitted in combination with upstream RCBO protection – e.g., an LAE 232 or LAE 235.
