Frequently Asked Questions

Energy – explained briefly.

What does a complete vehicle electrical system include?

A complete on-board electrical system includes energy storage (batteries), charging technology (shore power, alternator, solar), power distribution and protection, and monitoring of batteries, tanks, and consumers. Philippi supplies all coordinated components from a single source.

That depends on the boat size and consumers. Smaller boats usually run on 12 V, while larger yachts with higher loads benefit from 24 V. Our components are available for both board voltages – if you are unsure, we will advise you on the appropriate design.

When connected to shore power, equalizing currents can flow, accelerating corrosion on metal parts underwater. A galvanic isolator prevents this and protects the hull, shaft, and anodes – particularly important in marina facilities with common grounding.

Yes. Our products are specifically designed for maritime use, enduring moisture, salt air, and vibration. We will work with you during planning to ensure correct installation and securement.

Instead of combining components from various manufacturers, you receive a well-thought-out, tested system: All components are compatible, coordinated, and supported by a central contact person – this reduces sources of error and installation effort.

Yes. The system has a modular design – you can start with the core (battery, distribution) and add charging technology, monitors, or additional circuits later without replacing the existing system.

With our battery and tank monitors (e.g. BTM2, VTM, TSC), you can keep an eye on charge status, voltage, current, and fill levels at all times – on the central display or on the go via app.

Yes. For many production yachts – such as those from Bavaria – we offer ready-to-install 1:1 replacement panels that fit existing cutouts without modification. For individual requirements, we also manufacture in our own facility.

A charging booster (DC-DC converter) ensures fast, complete charging of the leisure battery via the alternator – especially recommended for modern, voltage-variable alternators and for lithium batteries.

Yes. Our charging technology is designed to use multiple charging sources in parallel and prioritize them intelligently, ensuring your battery is always optimally charged.

All circuits are protected by modern circuit breakers and residual current devices. Our control panels (series 100, 200, 700) provide standard-compliant overload protection for each individual load circuit.

Yes. Our experts will advise you personally and develop an individual energy concept tailored to your boat size, usage profile, and budget – free of charge and without obligation as part of a consultation.

Many components, such as retrofit panels, are plug-and-play and designed for self-installation. For more complex systems or initial installations, we recommend a specialist company or your shipyard – our support team is available to answer any questions.

Contact us directly – by phone or email. Where possible, we will promptly send replacement devices to match your route so that your journey does not have to be interrupted.

All core components have been developed and manufactured by philippi in Germany since 1978. In addition, we are the official distributor for leading brands such as Blue Sea Systems, Mastervolt, Balmar, and Studer.
