Electrical system planning
Electrical system planning at philippi means: we plan the complete 12, 24 or 48 V on-board system of your boat or vehicle and dimension every component to your requirements and wishes – from the load balance through battery capacity, charging sources and fusing to the switch panel. You receive professional advice, a fully designed system and, on request, drawings. Our planning is brand-independent: we recommend what suits your project.
Who it is for
- Owners and converters who want to build a new system or upgrade an existing one – for example to lithium
- Shipyards and vehicle builders who want a series or one-off installation designed to standard
- Refit projects in which a grown legacy system needs to be assessed and restructured
What the planning covers
- Load balance: daily consumption of all loads and the battery capacity required
- Energy generation: matching alternator, charge booster, solar, shore power and generator
- Distribution and fusing: cable cross-sections by voltage drop, fuses matched to the cross-section, main switches and busbars
- Operation and monitoring: switch panel, battery and tank monitoring, digital via P-BUS and PCU on request
- 230 V side: shore power, residual current protection and source changeover to ISO 13297
- Drawings: plans and drawings for installation on request
How it works
- Initial consultation: we clarify boat or vehicle, usage profile, requirements and wishes.
- Survey: existing system, loads and installation spaces.
- Design: we plan and dimension the complete system and agree it with you.
- Result: you receive the fully planned system, with drawings on request.
- Implementation: on request we build switch panels and distribution to measure and supply all components from a single source.
The starting point is a consultation. Its cost is credited when you place an order.
Planning and manufacturing from a single source
Because we build switch panels, shore power units, chargers and the P-BUS system ourselves, planning turns directly into a matching installation – as a custom build, a small series for shipyards or a refit panel. Read more about our production on the manufacturing page.
Frequently asked questions about electrical system planning
Is planning worthwhile for smaller boats or campers too?
Yes, especially there. In small installations, a few kilograms, centimetres and amps decide on self-sufficiency and safety. Planning prevents typical mistakes such as undersized cross-sections, wrongly rated fuses or a battery that does not match the charging source – and often saves more than it costs. For simple questions, the cable configurator helps in advance.
Which standard is the planning based on?
On boats we design the DC and AC side to ISO 13297, which has covered both sides in one standard since 2020. Vehicles are subject to other regulations, but the physical principles are the same: fusing by cross-section, separate DC and AC sides, clean grounding and limited voltage drop.
Do you only plan with philippi products?
No, our planning is brand-independent. What matters is what suits your boat or vehicle, your usage profile and your budget. Many customers then have the switch panels and distribution built by us because planning and manufacturing fit together exactly – but that is not a condition.
