Tank Gauges & Tank Monitors
Tank gauges and tank monitors for boats, yachts and motorhomes
A tank gauge shows the level that the tank sender measures in the tank. Here you will find analogue round gauges for one tank, digital tank monitors for several tanks and batteries, the alarm panel for black water tanks, plus interface and installation accessories. The matching tank senders are listed under Tank senders and tank sensors; the guide Tank monitoring on board gives an overview.
Which tank gauge for how many tanks?
| Display | Scope | Feature |
|---|---|---|
| Fuel/Water 52 mm round gauge | 1 tank | Analogue, for TGT and TGW; on 24 V with the Rturo series resistor |
| Waste UTV round gauge | 1 tank | Analogue, matches the UTV ultrasonic tank sender, 12 V and 24 V |
| TCS tank monitor | up to 3 tanks, 2 battery voltages | 2.4″ touchscreen, alarm thresholds per tank |
| VTM 2 tank monitor | up to 4 tanks, 2 battery banks | 3.5″ touchscreen, potential-free relay output |
| BTM2 battery and tank monitor | tank levels plus battery monitor with shunt | 3.5″ touchscreen, NMEA 2000 to the chartplotter |
| FAF black water tank alarm | full alarm for the black water tank | Visual and audible alarm, with TRS 130, RSW or DSW |
The philippi tank senders TGW, TGT, TDS/TDN, TDT and UTV connect directly to the TCS, VTM 2 and BTM2 digital monitors, as do third-party senders with 10–180 Ω, 240–33 Ω, voltage or 4–20 mA signals. You set volume and tank shape for each tank, so the reading is right even for wedge-shaped and moulded tanks. Round gauges fit neatly into the TAN 101 panel with rocker switch. The UTI universal tank interface connects pressure probes to existing analogue gauges.
Frequently asked questions about tank gauges
Which tank gauge suits my tank sender?
The Fuel/Water 52 mm round gauge suits the TGT and TGW tank senders, the Waste gauge the UTV ultrasonic tank sender. The TCS, VTM 2 and BTM2 tank monitors work with all philippi tank senders and common third-party senders with resistance, voltage or current signals. For pressure probes on an analogue gauge you need the UTI interface.
Can I see several tanks on one display?
Yes. The TCS tank monitor shows up to three tanks, the VTM 2 up to four, both with two battery voltages as well. The BTM2 battery and tank monitor shows tank levels together with the state of charge and current of the house battery. A round gauge, by contrast, always shows exactly one tank. For a single water or diesel tank, a round gauge in the TAN 101 panel is often enough.
Can I run the tank gauge on 24 V?
The TCS and VTM 2 tank monitors work on 12 V and 24 V, the BTM2 on 8 to 64 V. The Fuel/Water 52 mm round gauge is designed for 12 V; on 24 V you run it with the Rturo series resistor. The FAF black water tank alarm is available in a 12 V and a 24 V version.
Can the tank levels be shown on the chartplotter?
Yes, via NMEA 2000. The BTM2 battery and tank monitor has a built-in NMEA 2000 interface and passes battery and tank data to compatible chartplotters; you also need the N2K cable for this. The TCS and VTM 2 tank monitors have no NMEA 2000 interface. Alternatively, the Gobius C tank sensor in its NMEA 2000 version sends its level directly into the network.
