----Deep discharge protection
Deep discharge protection with pre-warning
The new TSA deep discharge protection with acoustic pre-warning gives the user the option of preventing an impending emergency shutdown of consumers when the lower voltage limit is reached, by switching on a charging source or switching off consumers. The pre-warning time is 50 s. Re-activation occurs automatically at 12.5 /25 V. The extremely low power consumption does not place any additional load on the battery to be protected. In conjunction with the FB-TSA control panel, the deep discharge protection can be remotely controlled.
The dangerous deep discharge of (lead) batteries
If a battery is fully discharged and then further discharged (deep discharge), so-called lead sulfation (loss of internal surface area) of the negative electrode occurs, resulting in irreversible capacity loss. In addition, lead sulfate crystals grow (sulfation), which also reduce the usable capacity. The risk of micro-short circuits, which increase the self-discharge of the battery, also increases. Therefore, deep discharge should be avoided at all costs to prevent premature battery failure. Deep discharge protection protects batteries from harmful deep discharge by switching off consumers when the lower voltage limit is reached. Re-activation occurs automatically when the batteries are recharged.
