Deep discharge protection

Deep discharge protection with pre-warning

The new TSA deep discharge protection system with acoustic warning allows the user to prevent an impending emergency shutdown of connected devices when the lower voltage limit is reached by switching on a charging source or switching off the devices. The warning time is 50 seconds. Reactivation occurs automatically at 12.5/25 V. The extremely low power consumption places no additional strain on the battery being protected. The deep discharge protection system can be remotely controlled using the FB-TSA control panel.

The dangerous deep discharge of (lead-acid) batteries

If a battery is completely discharged and beyond (deep discharge), the negative electrode undergoes lead buildup (loss of internal surface area), resulting in an irreversible loss of capacity. Furthermore, lead sulfate crystals (sulfation) grow, further reducing the usable capacity. The risk of micro-short circuits also increases, accelerating the battery's self-discharge. Therefore, deep discharge must be avoided at all costs to prevent premature battery failure. Deep discharge protection safeguards batteries from damaging deep discharge by disconnecting consumers when the lower voltage limit is reached. The system automatically reconnects when the batteries are recharged.
