The EU General Product Safety Regulation. Among other things, it obliges manufacturers and dealers to name a responsible person in the EU and to supply safety information.

For buyers it mainly means that every product comes with a contactable responsible person in the EU and the necessary warnings and safety instructions — even when bought via online marketplaces.
With on-board electrical components from direct import, this is often exactly what is missing. That is less a formality than a practical problem: without a contact, there is no one to turn to in the event of damage.
