The Philippi Galvanic Isolator GI is a corrosion protection component that is installed in the shore power connection of boats, between the hull and the shore power grid, to prevent unwanted galvanic currents. It is particularly suitable for yachts with plastic hulls whose propulsion system needs to be protected from galvanic corrosion via the shore power connection.

The Philippi Galvanic Isolator is integrated into the protective earth (PE) conductor of the shore power connection. Two diodes, connected in anti-parallel and in series, create such a high blocking potential that galvanic currents can no longer flow between the hull and the shore power grid, while fault current protection via the protective earth conductor is maintained. For GRP hulls, the galvanic isolator thus separates the hull from the shore power potential and prevents corrosion of metallic components that can arise due to different electrochemical potentials between the hull, the shore connection, and neighboring metal objects (e.g., steel sheet piles).
