Manual LAE 205: Installing the Shore Power Circuit Breaker
The LAE 205 shore power unit protects the onboard AC 230 V/50 Hz system with an MCB 16 A miniature circuit breaker (Swiss version 13 A). It must be installed close to the shore power inlet connector whenever the distance between the shore supply and the MCB is more than 3 m, and it is designed for use inside the boat. This page summarises the wiring diagram, installation and technical data from the installation manual.

Intended use and safety
The LAE 205 shore power unit provides circuit protection for the onboard AC 230 V/50 Hz system by means of an MCB 16 A miniature circuit breaker (Swiss version CH: 13 A). It must be installed close to the shore power inlet connector whenever the distance between the shore supply and the MCB is more than 3 m. It is designed for use inside the boat, not outdoors. The electrical connection is made at the MCB for phase (L) and neutral (N) and, for the protective earth (PE), via a terminal strip in the housing.
- Work on low-voltage AC 230 V/50 Hz system components may only be carried out by authorised qualified electricians.
- Make all connections carefully and in accordance with the technical regulations (DIN EN ISO 13297).
- The installation manual is part of the component delivery. Keep it in a safe place for later maintenance work and pass it on to any subsequent owners.

Frequently asked questions
What is the LAE 205 used for?
The LAE 205 protects the onboard AC 230 V/50 Hz system with an MCB 16 A miniature circuit breaker, or 13 A in the Swiss version. It must be installed close to the shore power inlet connector whenever the distance between the shore supply and the MCB is more than 3 metres. It is intended for use inside the boat.
How do I connect the LAE 205?
Phase (L) and neutral (N) connect directly to the MCB, the protective earth (PE) to a terminal strip in the housing. Input terminal 1 is phase L of the shore connection, output terminal 2 is phase L to the onboard system. Minimum cable cross-section is 3 × 2.5 mm²; the diagram shows all conductors as 2.5 mm².
What power rating and protection does the LAE 205 have?
For input terminal 1, the manual specifies a shore connection of up to a maximum of 3.6 kW (16 A). The main protection is an MCB with 16 A and 30 mA; the Swiss LAE 205 CH version has 13 A and 30 mA. Operating voltage is AC 230 volts at 50 Hz.
May I install the LAE 205 outdoors?
No. The manual expressly specifies the LAE 205 for use inside the boat, not outdoors. The housing has protection rating IP 65 and measures 80 mm wide, 150 mm high and 97 mm deep. Installation must be carried out carefully in accordance with DIN EN ISO 13297.
