The Balmar 94-24-140-IG alternator is a large-format 24V/140A alternator from the robust 94-Series, specifically designed for installation on Volvo engines. It delivers high charging power for large consumer battery banks even at low speeds and is designed for continuous operation under the harshest marine conditions. Ideal for long-distance yachts, fishing vessels, and motor yachts with high power requirements on board.

Do I need an external regulator?

Yes. The 94-Series is exclusively designed for operation with an external Balmar multi-stage regulator (e.g., MC-618 or MC-624, sold separately). Unlike smaller series such as the 6-Series or XT-Series, this large-format alternator does not have an internal regulator fallback — a suitable external regulator is essential for operation.

The 94-24-140-IG is designed for long-distance yachts, fishing vessels, government boats, and motor yachts with a large 24V electrical system or lithium battery bank, where reliable recharging under continuous load is crucial.
