Manual LAE 230: Installing the Shore Power Unit with Two Circuits
The LAE 230 shore power unit protects the onboard AC 230 V/50 Hz system with an RCBo 16 A residual current/miniature circuit breaker and two MCB 10 A miniature circuit breakers. It is designed for use inside the boat, not outdoors, and a mains indicator light shows the shore power connection. This page summarises the connection, wiring diagram and technical data from the operating manual.

Intended use
The LAE 230 shore power unit provides protection for the onboard AC 230 V/50 Hz system by means of an RCBo 16 A residual current/miniature circuit breaker and two MCB 10 A miniature circuit breakers. It is designed for use inside the boat, not outdoors. The mains indicator light shows the shore power connection.
The electrical input connection is made at the RCBo (RCD/MCB) for phase (L) and neutral (N) and, for the protective earth (PE), via a terminal strip in the housing of the LAE 230. On the output side, the connection is made at the MCB miniature circuit breakers.
Connection and wiring diagram

| Connection | Function according to the manual | Cable cross-section |
|---|---|---|
| RCBo 2 | Input phase L | min. 3 × 2.5 mm² |
| RCBo N | Input neutral N | min. 3 × 2.5 mm² |
| PE | Protective earth via common terminal | – |
| MCB-F2 2 | Output 1 phase L | min. 3 × 1.5 mm² |
| MCB-F2 4 | Output 1 neutral N | min. 3 × 1.5 mm² |
| MCB-F3 2 | Output 2 phase L | min. 3 × 1.5 mm² |
| MCB-F3 4 | Output 2 neutral N | min. 3 × 1.5 mm² |
The protective earth (PE) of the input and of the outputs is connected via the common terminal. Indicator light H1 is connected at the input, in parallel with the AC cables. If the unit is installed more than 3 m from the shore power inlet plug, an additional miniature circuit breaker (MCB) must be installed close to the inlet; the manual names the LAE 205 for this purpose.
Installation notes
- Work on low-voltage AC 230 V/50 Hz system components may only be carried out by authorised qualified electricians.
- Make all connections to the shore power unit carefully and in accordance with the technical regulations (DIN EN ISO 13297).
- The installation manual is part of the component delivery. Keep it in a safe place for later maintenance work and pass it on to any subsequent owners.

Frequently asked questions
Which circuit breakers are fitted in the LAE 230?
The LAE 230 contains an RCBo 16 A, 30 mA residual current/miniature circuit breaker at the input and two MCB miniature circuit breakers of 10 A each for the outputs. The input is designed for a shore connection of up to a maximum of 3.6 kW (16 A). A mains indicator light shows the shore power connection.
What cable cross-section do I need for the input and outputs?
At least 3 × 2.5 mm² for the input and at least 3 × 1.5 mm² for the two outputs F2 and F3. The protective earth (PE) is connected via the common terminal in each case. Phase and neutral of the input go directly to the RCBo, those of the outputs to terminals 2 and 4 of the MCBs.
Do I need an additional miniature circuit breaker?
Yes. If the distance between the shore power inlet plug and the LAE 230 is more than 3 m, the manual requires an additional miniature circuit breaker (MCB) close to the inlet; it names the LAE 205 for this purpose. Indicator light H1 is connected at the input, in parallel with the AC cables, and shows the shore power connection.
May I install the LAE 230 outdoors?
No. The LAE 230 is designed for use inside the boat, not outdoors. The housing has protection rating IP 65 and measures 160 × 200 × 115 mm (W × H × D). Work on the 230 V system may only be carried out by authorised qualified electricians, and installation must comply with DIN EN ISO 13297.
