24V-70A alternator for Yanmar engines

This Balmar 6-Series alternator delivers 70 amps at 24 volts and is the solution for Yanmar and Westerbeke diesel engines with a 24V electrical system whose original alternator can no longer cope with the increased power requirements. It replaces the stock alternator on the proven dual-foot engine mount and provides noticeably more charging power for house batteries, cooling, navigation electronics, and other 24V consumers on board - with shorter engine running times.

Do I absolutely need an external regulator?

Yes. Unlike the 12V variants of the 6-Series, this 24V-70A alternator does not have sufficient internal regulation in the Smart-Ready sense. For operation, the external multi-stage regulator MC-624 (Max Charge) is absolutely necessary, which controls the charging curve and, in combination with two temperature sensors on the alternator and battery, enables safe, temperature-dependent charging.

Single or as a Set?

Since the MC-624 regulator is technically required for this 24V version, we generally recommend the set variant: it includes the alternator, the MC-624 regulator, and two temperature sensors for the alternator and battery - perfectly matched and ready for immediate use. The single variant is suitable if you already have a suitable MC-624 regulator including sensors in use and only want to replace the alternator.

Area of Application

Ideal for sailboats and motor yachts with 24V electrical systems and Yanmar or Westerbeke diesel engines, especially with larger house batteries and irregular, short engine running times, as is typical for sailing.
