The temperature sensor TEMP-BT is an NTC temperature sensor from philippi for measuring battery, water and air temperatures in the onboard electrical system of yachts, motorhomes and vehicles. It connects directly to the SHX and SHE battery management shunts, the EM-Box and SHC interfaces, or the TPC 4 temperature interface in the P-BUS system, and measures from -30 °C to +70 °C.

Why battery temperature matters

Via the SHX and SHE battery management shunts, the battery temperature is recorded with the philippi TEMP-BT temperature sensor in addition to current, voltage, and capacity, and displayed directly on the system monitor. A separate temperature interface is not required for this.

This is more than just an additional display: the usable capacity of a battery depends on its temperature, and for LiFePO4, charging below freezing is the point at which permanent damage occurs. If you don't know the temperature, you only have an approximate idea of the state of charge.

Up to four temperature sensors like the TEMP-BT can be connected simultaneously to the TPC 4 temperature interface, allowing for parallel monitoring of, for example, battery, cooling water, and interior temperatures.

What is the TEMP-BT used for?

Do I need an additional interface for battery temperature?

No. The TEMP-BT connects directly to the SHX and SHE battery management shunts; the temperature appears on the system monitor in addition to current, voltage, and capacity.
