The TEMP-BT temperature sensor is an NTC temperature probe from philippi for measuring battery, water, and air temperatures in the onboard electrical systems of yachts, motorhomes, and vehicles. It connects directly to the battery management shunts SHX and SHE, the interfaces EM-Box and SHC, or the temperature interface TPC 4 in the P-BUS system and measures from -30 °C to +70 °C. The TEMP-BT is also compatible with the PCU control unit.

Why battery temperature matters
Using the battery management shunts SHX and SHE, the battery temperature is recorded by the philippi TEMP-BT temperature sensor in addition to current, voltage, and capacity, and is displayed directly on the system monitor. A separate temperature interface is not required for this.
This is more than just an additional display: the extractable capacity of a battery depends on its temperature, and for LiFePO4, charging below freezing point is the stage where permanent damage occurs. If you don't know the temperature, you only know the state of charge approximately.
Up to four temperature sensors like the TEMP-BT can be connected to the TPC 4 temperature interface simultaneously, allowing for parallel monitoring of battery, cooling water, and interior temperatures, for example.
