DC Connector 12/24V
DC connectors 12 V / 24 V – sockets, standard plugs, USB and MagCode for boats, yachts and vehicles
In this category you will find sockets, plugs, couplings and cables for 6 to 24 V systems: flush-mount and surface-mount sockets to DIN EN ISO 4165, universal and cigarette-lighter plugs, USB charging sockets and the MagCode magnetic connector system. Most of the range comes from the German manufacturer pro-car, complemented by flush-mount sockets and MagCode components from philippi.
In brief: Standard (DIN) sockets are made for higher currents and a secure fit, cigarette-lighter sockets for compatibility. On board, the standard socket is therefore recommended; universal plugs fit both.

Standard sockets and power socket
The ESD flush-mount standard socket is the standard solution for fixed installation: with a cover against dust and spray, for standard and universal plugs, up to 16 A at 6–24 V, connected via 6.3 mm blade terminals. The DSD combines three sockets with 16 A in total. For higher loads such as compressor cool boxes there is the PSD with up to 20 A at 2.5 mm² connection cross-section, and for spray-exposed locations the waterproof WSD to IP 67.
MagCode – magnetic connection
In the MagCode system, plug and flange socket are held together by magnetic force. When disconnected the socket is de-energised, and magnetic coding prevents 12 V and 24 V parts from being mixed up. The connection releases under tension without damaging cable or socket.
| MagCode MCS / MCF | Value |
|---|---|
| Nominal voltage | 12 V or 24 V (coded) |
| Nominal current | 15–16 A |
| Connection cross-section | max. 2.5 mm² |
| Contacts | silver-plated |
| Temperature range | −25 to +85 °C |
| Flange socket | installation depth 22 mm, mounting hole Ø 28 mm |
USB charging from the on-board system
USB charging sockets and panels convert the on-board voltage to 5 V for smartphones, tablets and navigation devices. Models with Power Delivery and Quick Charge charge compatible devices faster; the angled UWBL twin charging plug fits standard and cigarette-lighter sockets. More permanently installed USB sockets can be found in the USB charging sockets category.
Frequently asked questions about DC connectors
What is the difference between standard and universal plugs?
Standard plugs to DIN EN ISO 4165 have a fixed diameter, only fit standard sockets and are rated up to 15 A. Universal plugs fit both standard sockets and cigarette-lighter sockets, but are usually only approved for up to 8 A. For powerful loads on board, the standard socket is therefore the better choice.
What does “de-energised when disconnected” mean for MagCode?
When nothing is plugged in, the MagCode flange socket carries no voltage. The circuit is only closed when plug and socket are joined magnetically. This prevents short circuits from touching the contacts, for example with tools or moisture. In addition, magnetic coding prevents 12 V and 24 V parts from being plugged together.
Which socket is suitable for outdoor use?
For areas exposed to spray, the WSD 12/24 waterproof flush-mount standard socket with screw cap is designed to IP 67. It fits standard and universal plugs and is supplied with a potted connection cable. All other sockets in this category belong in a protected interior or behind a cover.
What is the difference between ESD and PSD?
The ESD is a flush-mount standard socket for standard and universal plugs up to 16 A. The PSD is a flush-mount socket for universal plugs with a higher rating: 20 A with 2.5 mm² connection cross-section, 16 A with 1.5 mm². It suits compressor cool boxes, air pumps or inverters with higher inrush current.
Which USB socket charges fast?
The USB charging sockets with Power Delivery on the USB-C output and Quick Charge on the USB-A output charge compatible smartphones and tablets much faster than simple 5 V sockets. They work with an input of 8 to 34 V, i.e. in 12 and 24 V systems, and have E1 approval for vehicle use.
