The AltMount© serpentine pulley conversion kit from Balmar makes it possible to operate powerful high-current 6-Series and XT-Series alternators on Yanmar diesel engines, which are factory-equipped only with a single V-belt. Instead of the original V-belt pulley, a specially designed serpentine pulley is mounted over the existing crankshaft and water pump pulleys, allowing a wider ribbed belt to be used. This patented system (U.S. Patent Nos. 8,939,855 and D654,778) is a prerequisite for actually transferring the full power of a modern high-performance alternator to the belt.

Why is my original V-belt no longer sufficient?
A single V-belt can only transmit about 100 A of alternator power in a 12V system, and even only about 45 A in a 24V system. As soon as a more powerful alternator is installed – for example, from about 120 A at 12V or generally any model of the Balmar XT-Series – the contact surface of the narrow V-belt is no longer sufficient to transmit the power without loss and slip. A serpentine pulley with a larger belt contact area creates the necessary reserve here, provided the engine is not already equipped with double V-belts or serpentine belts from the factory.
Scope of delivery & Installation
Each AltMount© kit contains all the hardware required for installation as well as two matching serpentine belts. Installation is done by placing and securing the new pulleys over the existing crankshaft and water pump pulleys. Since engine dimensions can vary slightly depending on the year of manufacture and version, minor adjustments to the mounting or screw length may be necessary in individual cases.
