24V-70A alternator for Volvo engines

This Balmar 6-Series alternator delivers 70 amps at 24 volts and is the solution for Volvo Penta diesel engines with 24V electrical systems whose original alternators are no longer sufficient for increased power demands. It replaces the stock alternator on the typical single-foot engine mount and provides significantly more charging power for house batteries, refrigeration, navigation electronics, and other 24V consumers on board—with shorter engine run times.

Do I absolutely need an external regulator?

Yes. Unlike the 12V variants of the 6-Series, this 24V-70A alternator does not have sufficient internal regulation in the Smart-Ready sense. The external multi-stage regulator MC-624 (Max Charge) is absolutely necessary for operation. It controls the charging curve and, in combination with two temperature sensors on the alternator and battery, enables safe, temperature-dependent charging.

Individually or as a Set?

Since the MC-624 regulator is technically required for this 24V version, we generally recommend the set variant: it includes the alternator, the MC-624 regulator, and two temperature sensors for the alternator and battery - perfectly matched and ready for immediate use. The individual variant is suitable if you already have a suitable MC-624 regulator including sensors in use and only want to replace the alternator.
