Alternator, XT Series, 170A, 12V, Single Foot 1-2"

The Balmar XT-SF-170-K6 alternator from the XT series delivers 170A at 12V and uses a single foot/spindle mount (1-2") – a design primarily found in Volvo and Delco-style engines. It is suitable for yachts, boats, and RVs with increased power demands, for example due to refrigerators, anchor winches, navigation electronics, or lithium battery banks, which can no longer be adequately charged with a classic 30-40A alternator.

• Mounting type: Single foot/spindle mount 1-2" (SF) – attachment via a single foot or spindle bolt, typical for Volvo and Delco-style alternator brackets
• Pulley: K6 serpentine (6-groove, approx. 69mm / 2.6-2.7" diameter)
• Dimensions: Housing diameter approx. 134mm, total height approx. 188mm, bolt-to-bolt length approx. 124mm
• A simple single V-belt is not sufficient for this power class – without an existing double V-belt or serpentine belt, an AltMount© pulley conversion kit is required
• For non-adaptive RPM display, the Balmar 15-TSS Tachometer Signal Stabilizer is recommended
• For Yanmar engines with common rail technology and newer Volvo engines, the 61-0050 (K6) pulley is required

Is the single-foot mount the right choice?

The single-foot/spindle mount 1-2" is the standard design for many Volvo Penta and Delco-style engines. Before ordering, check which foot variant is installed on your engine – if in doubt, compare with the double-foot variant (XT-DF-170-K6) or contact our support team.

Single unit or as a set?

The "single unit" variant (SKU 752117060) includes only the alternator and is the right choice if a suitable regulator is already present. The "set" (SKU 752117066) additionally includes the MC-618 multi-stage regulator with temperature sensors and is recommended for complete new installations or an upgrade to temperature-monitored multi-stage charging.

Application Area

Suitable for sailing and motor yachts as well as RVs with demanding electrical systems, for conversion to lithium batteries, and for anyone who frequently uses their engine at idle for charging, for example, at anchor.
