The FBR 500 is a bistable main switch relay (Remote Battery Switch) for on-board installation in boats and vehicles. It switches circuits with up to 500 A remotely via a light control line – the thick, expensive battery cables no longer need to be routed to the switch panel, but only to the relay near the battery. Thanks to magnetic latching technology, the FBR 500 remains completely de-energized in both the open and closed states and therefore consumes no power from the on-board battery.
Advantages
- Bistable (magnetically latching) circuit – no power consumption at rest, neither open nor closed
- Remote controlled disconnection and connection of circuits via a separate control cable with small cross-section
- Silver alloy contacts for reliable switching even under load
- Shorter, thinner main cables thanks to mounting close to the battery – less voltage drop, weight and cost compared to a classic battery main switch with long cable runs
- LED feedback of switching status (optional LED or included remote control switch required)
- Robust, corrosion-resistant 3/8"-16 copper studs and one-piece stainless steel flange nuts for secure connections
Technical Data & Compatibility
- Contact voltage 0–64 V DC, suitable for 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V on-board power systems
- Control signal: 12 V momentary (DC12V variant) or 24 V momentary (DC24V variant)
- Cranking current (30 sec.) up to 1450 A, continuous current up to 500 A depending on cable cross-section (2× 4/0 AWG)
- Connection studs 3/8"-16 (M10), maximum tightening torque 140 in-lb (15.8 Nm)
- Protection class IP66 (protected against strong water jets), ignition protected according to ISO 8846 and SAE J1171
- Included in delivery: Remote control switch (Contura) for control
Why is a main switch relay like the FBR 500 needed?
Whenever batteries or entire circuits need to be safely disconnected remotely without having to lay long and heavy main power cables to the switch panel – for example, when separating starter and house batteries, for service cases, or to reduce fire risks from live long cables. The FBR 500 replaces the classic mechanical main switch with a remotely controllable relay directly at the battery, thereby minimizing cable length, weight, and voltage drop in the on-board electrical system.
